An animal adult, whether human or non-human, is a creature that has developed to its full potential. The term adult is applied to human beings in order to define the legal and social aspects. As opposed to a "non-adult" or "minor", a legal adult is a person who is at the point of majority and is therefore regarded as autonomous, self-sufficient and responsible. The term "major" is a term applied to these individuals. The age when a child can legally become an adult is 18 years old, however the definition of"legal maturity" is different based on the country or legal system, as well as the state of their mental health.

The stage of development for humans during which physical and mental maturity is attained. Many people believe that the age of adulthood starts at 20 years or older. The age of old is 60 years after middle years. There are three major levels of adulthood: the early years of adulthood (18 until mid-30s) and middle adulthood (mid-30s to mid-60s), and the final stage of adulthood (mid-60s up to the point of death). Physical maturation has been completed by the time we reach our early adulthood years (20-40s), although the weight and height may increase slightly. When we reach the beginning of our adulthood, we're physically at our peak. Strength of muscles, reaction time, sensoriac ability and cardiac function are all at their maximum.
